Tasman Threads

A Trans Tasman Collaboration

Since early 2022, Dr Maggie Buxton and Kim Newall of AwhiWorld and Dr Tracey M Benson (Treecreate) have worked together on a series of Trans-Tasman projects, including residencies and creative collaborations that connect Onerahi in Whangarei, Aotearoa NZ, to Yarun (Bribie) Island in Queensland, Australia.

This partnership is based on a shared understanding of transdisciplinary practice which necessarily includes a spiritual component through deep listening and acknowledgement of the Sacred. There are also mutual passions for walking, nature, systemic thinking, and supporting a multi-dimensional worldview.

LIMINAL ZONES

Liminal Zones is the next stage of our collaboration and will include sharing practices, ideas, and knowledge from these liminal locations within a short distance from our homes.

These practice sites are based around marine reserves (at Yarun and in Onerahi), which are mangrove-based ecosystems. These areas are at the nexus point of climate change and are culturally contested. In Australia, all mangrove species are protected whereas in Aotearoa, many communities see them as a pest.

You can check out AwhiWorld’s page about the project for more information.
